WILDFLOWERS

WILDFLOWERS AT WILDACRES

What beautiful wildflowers we have here in Ireland.

They are to be found in every habitat type from dry sand dunes to wet marshy ground and all habitats in between..

Is there a sight more stunning than that of a woodland of native broad leaf trees in dappled spring sunlight, with the forest floor a carpet of bluebells, or the electric yellow of the first spring celandines opening as the suns rays gain strength early in the year, or a mountainside carpeted in purple ling and bell heather. ?

Even to spot one of our many wildflowers in bloom in a ditch or side of a road can bring a smile on a damp spring or summers day. With modern intensive agricultural methods and spraying of roadside verges they have become a rarer sight in recent years. Though on a positive note, as a result of the biodiversity crisis there has been an upsurge in interest and appreciation of our wildflowers and thankfully a growing re-connection with our wildlife and countryside.

Hopefully this interest will further blossom and wildflowers will be planted and protected on a larger scale, for both us and future generations to enjoy.

Here we will log all our photos taken and document on an ongoing basis, all the wildflowers growing at Wildacres Nature Reserve.
